INVESTIGATION

One day I was looking to an original "BALENCIAGA" (a well known high fashion brand) commercial, in which I saw a girl trapped inside a transparent plastic bag.

This made me think that the photographer might have referenced to women inferiority on our society on that image, which somehow reminded me of another of our society problems, slavery, which affects people from many countries in Africa, Latin-America and Asia.

I thought about how he somehow are also slaves, obviously not in the same way as others, but so on some of our society aspects mostly related with money or objects.

Then, listening to a song called "Modern slavery" I thought about how would it be an accepted and worldwide opened slaves market in our current social context and environment.

I imagined the idea of people using slaves as an everyday tool, like if they were phones, and if slaves were phones they'd be bought the same way, through webpages and catalogs, and that's why i developed one.

I want to make it clear that "People.com" is only a surrealistic way of looking to slavery in our society context supported by an audiovisual editorial, and it's not meant neither has the intention to actually create a real people market.

developement

I planned the development of a brand whose purpose was to sell people, like if they were clothes or accessories.

I wanted to connect my creation to the inspiration that brought me the idea of doing this so I thought the fact that the ones sold were inside plastic bags would reduce them and make them look less human, which I think worked out pretty well and allowed me to play with the reflections on the plastic too, it’s like it adds a barrier between the one sold and the one buying.

EXECUTION

I made a photography study in my house so I could be able to take the pictures for the webpage, which I also created by myself.

I called four friends which know a bit of interpretation to take them a couple of photos for it, and I placed them in the webpage with the information needed to know about them next to them.

PRESENTATION

As you can see, I created a webpage as a representation of how an slavery industry would be if it was accepted in our social context.
